GMOs derived from and/or presenting with similar characteristics with agents listed under the First, Second and Fourth Schedule of the Biological Agents and Toxins Act (BATA) shall be regulated by the Ministry of Health. Controls that are applicable to the First, Second and Fourth Schedule will be followed for the respective GMO's.

In general, biological agents under the Fourth Schedule do not require approval for possession or use. However, approval for possession or use may apply if the biorisk of the biological agents is enhanced by genetic modification. To ascertain this, it is advised to seek consultation from the Genetic Modification Advisory Committee at info@gmac.sg.
