Biological agents and toxins requiring a protected facility

Facilities that want to possess or work with First Schedule Part 2 or Second Schedule biological agents, or Fifth Schedule toxins are required to have their facilities gazetted as a protected place under the Infrastructure Protection Act and to have the personnel who will access the protected facility vetted by the relevant regulatory authority. In addition, the facilities are also required to comply with the requirements stipulated by the Physical Security Working Group [PDF, 423 KB].

Procedure for gazetting and vetting of personnel

The procedures given below must be followed to apply for the gazetting of a facility as a protected place and the vetting of personnel as part of the requirement for possession of First Schedule Part 2 or Second Schedule biological agents or Fifth Schedule toxins.
